Flavor Buffet: 8/27/2021

Hello! Happy Friday.

Well, it’s been a strange week around here and not just because I thought Tuesday was Wednesday for several hours (oops). We’ve had yet another heat wave, tons of humidity, and (suddenly) plenty of sunshine which seems to be making up for lost time. It’s good for the garden!

I love summer, I really do, but this week was the first time that I felt the need for fall (or at least temps below 90). It’ll show up soon enough. For now, I’m hanging out in shorts, tees, and my new favorite Birkenstocks (link below).

This summer felt long and short all at once; would you agree? I’m now suddenly trying to enjoy every second of what’s left of my favorite time of year. Good reads, August recipes, and some shopping are all below for your weekend enjoyment! The Buffet is best read outside in the shade, if you ask me. ;)

READ

I’m not much of a DIY-er, but this updated entryway (done by the homeowners, on a budget) looks fantastic!

Pretty sure we should all be eating meatless more often than just Mondays. I think this new cookbook would be extremely helpful for the transition.

Whoah, here are 63 new cookbooks making their debut this fall. Now that’s a lot of cooking inspiration.

A genius solution for making leftover potato salad much more delicious.

How do we feel about denim skirts? I usually deem them best for taller folks, but maybe I should consider them again.

Some helpful design ideas to give your kitchen a (possibly) much-needed refresh.

A dairy-free-on-purpose corn chowder!? And it’s delicious?! I must investigate and make this immediately while corn is still fresh, abundant, and local.

COOK

Clams with Sherry and Olives sounds like a fun, happy dinner. We should make it.

Spicy Pesto Cheese Stuffed Roasted Red Peppers look perfect for a weeknight meal.

Chili Lime Creamed Corn sounds like the best, end-of-August side dish.

Zucchini Fritters withYogurt Feta Dipping Sauce is a dinner I’ll eat again and again. Adding it to next week’s menu for sure.

Sichuan Dry Fried Green Beans is a dish very similar to one we made this week. Actually, my idea for our dinner came from this one! Delicious.

Save time for dessert: a peach and pecan sandy crumble sounds just right for an end-of-summer (outdoor) soiree.

DINE

In an effort to savor summer, we’ve been cooking more at home lately (hanging out on the deck) and have been turning down the frequency of going out for dinner. However, if your mindset is different then I strongly recommend finding a great spot to dine outside before the seasons change because it’s fun! I love going out to eat. My new Bar Bites guide, devoted to comfort food classics, is just about done…

SHOP

I’ve been enjoying this Biossance Probiotic Gel Moisturizer for both my day and nighttime skincare routine.

No matter the season, I will be wearing these Birkenstock Arizona EVA sandals around the house. They feel like I’m walking on the cushiest ground. Or marshmallows. You get the idea.

I’m considering this cube bookcase for our gym/extra office. I think it would be super-functional and just stylish enough for the multipurpose space. PS: Crate&Kids has some of my favorite furniture. :)

Believe the hype: the Dyson Corrale Hair Straightener is incredible!

A friendly reminder that the seasons will eventually change. You may want to stock up now on a Dudley Stephens fleece (or two, or more..) before the crowds. They’re part of my cold weather uniform year after year.

Shoutout to my new favorite pair of jeans (high-rise slim crop boyjean, petite) from Madewell. This style fits so well, stretches out a bit, and is just so comfy.

Have a great weekend and enjoy!

Mollie
