Flavor Buffet: 9/3/2021
Hello! Happy Friday. It is a glorious morning here in New England which is something I’ve been waiting to say for weeks. The air is crisp, the sun feels warm, and the sky is a brilliant blue. This is my type of morning!
A wonderful way to kick off Labor Day Weekend, the “unofficial” last weekend of summer and basically the start of the transition to fall. I do love the warmth and relaxed-nature of summer, but there’s something about a cool September morning that gets me every year.
Fall is fantastic and often filled with so much promise and opportunity. I suppose it’s the “new school year” vibes all around me even if I’m not starting school whatsoever. I love the feeling. It’s probably why I’ve been buying (oops) new fall clothes - a fresh start!
So, let’s enjoy this new month, a beautiful Friday, and all of the small (and big) moments that go along with it. I hope you enjoy this week’s Buffet and have a wonderful weekend ahead.
READ
Apparently real/whole milk is back. Good! Where did it go? And why (unless you truly cannot have dairy or lactose) would you choose the alternative options? I guess cashew milk is OK, but honestly, I’ll always opt for the real thing.
A compilation of the best “subtle scents” for those of us who don’t wear perfume too frequently. Hi! That’s me.
Back again this week with a new collection of to-be-released baking books. Hooray! I’m especially excited for the new titles by Sarah Kieffer and Dorie Greenspan. My baking hiatus is almost over…
Not only do I need the new book, The Weekday Vegetarians, immediately, I love this piece about finding a “hook” for dinnertime. This salad looks excellent, too.
Take a peek into this very cool home (cabin) in Oklahoma.
Anyone need new furniture or decor? Here are the best Labor Day furniture sales to check out this weekend.
COOK
Guacamole Turkey Burgers - one of the best burgers we’ve ever made!
Maple-glazed Doughnuts - perfect recipe as the seasons are soon to turn…
A handful of recipes featuring corn and tomatoes - make one (or all) this weekend before produce-primetime passes by.
Walnut Shrimp - very tempted to make this “Chinese banquet dish” very soon. It looks so good!
Baked Corn Tortilla Chips - I’m interested in making these from scratch. Looks pretty easy and healthier than buying a whole bag at the grocery store.
Sausage-stuffed Cherry Peppers - we made a version of these for dinner this week! Super easy and quick to prepare. Don’t forget to add plenty of shredded cheese on top before baking. :)
Basil Sugar Pound Cake - I’m intrigued! Definitely considering this one for my “to bake” list…
DINE
Did you hear?! My new dining guide went live this week! Bar Bites: Comfort Food Classics is now available and is jam-packed with my favorite places to visit (or get takeout) that have the best fries, burgers, donuts, fried seafood, and more!
SHOP
Officially hooked on clothing from Alex Mill. Great, simple styles that work for everything. I ordered a couple pieces that were awesome and, uh, already placed another order. Remember, this is a #judgementfreezone. ;)
I got a sample of Moroccan Oil in my last Sephora order and finally tried it this week (I’ve been hearing about it for years). Wow. My hair looks so shiny and feels so soft!
Debating this pair of New Balance sneakers to replace my very worn-out ones that I wear for workouts.
Head over to New England Loom, a small business in Wenham, MA, this weekend for their Labor Day sale - 20% off everything (rugs, benches, pillows, more)! This is where I found my most-recent vintage rugs for my office and our entryway.
Definitely included this shop last week, but Dudley Stephens has a Labor Day sale going on right now: 25% off your entire order which is pretty excellent if you ask me. Time to stock up on that fleece!
Have a great long weekend and enjoy!
