Flavor Buffet: 9/11/2020
It is not appropriate to begin this Buffet with my usual greeting. Today, September 11, is a day that is quite difficult for so many and I cannot begin to fathom what this day is like for those directly affected by the events that took place. I am so sorry for your loss.
While I plan to have today’s Buffet be its usual upbeat, joyful self, I am not dismissing the significance of today’s date whatsoever. Please read along for some good reads, fall recipes, ideas for takeout, and some products I think you may enjoy (fall is coming).
Have a good weekend. Please wear a mask!
READ
Please take a moment to read this piece about the yearly 9/11 memorial ceremony in NYC.
If you haven’t seen it, there is a brand-new skincare routine update! Take a look and see how I’ve changed up my day and night routine - including my double-cleanse process.
We have only dined outdoors at restaurants twice (each time as far from people as possible). But I do admit that dining outside is delightful. Maybe it should become permanent?
Another reason to love fall? It’s foliage season! Man, I love the changing colors of the leaves. And now I will use this guide to help me find the best time to travel (locally) and see it all in full “bloom.”
Even more praise (and a recipe) for Sarah Kieffer’s latest, amazing, cookbook 100 Cookies. You bet it’s on my shelf waiting for its first use!
It’s a great day to learn about the process of velveting meat - a Chinese technique we use quite often when cooking stir-fries for dinner (or any time).
COOK
Chicken Larb Bowls - We’ve made this recipe several times and it does not disappoint. Do yourself a favor and make it tonight! Just be sure to use GF soy sauce. ;)
Homemade Guacamole - Our latest recipe is delicious and as versatile as ever. Feel free to follow it as written or make tweaks along the way. It will be great no matter what!
Oven Roasted Cauliflower with Tahini Sauce - Roasting veggies is one of my favorite ways to eat them once the seasons change. And this roasted cauliflower sounds like a great way to kickoff the season.
One Skillet Cheesy Broccoli Cheddar Orzo Bake - Now that football has returned, I think we’ll be adding in some heartier meals to our weekends for “game day food.” This dish sounds perfect - and I just got a box of GF orzo that’s waiting patiently! Sounds delicious to me…
DINE
We didn’t do much in the way of new takeout last week, but we did order again from local favorite Public Kitchen (the GF pizza is awesome). And while I wouldn’t call this a full meal, there’s nothing wrong with ordering copious amounts of french fries from Five Guys to celebrate, well, anything.
Here’s my latest guide to takeout - check it out for tonight!
SHOP
Honestly, I’m ready to put away the shorts and organize my jeans drawer. Considering this pair for the fall.
Another excellent top for zoom meetings - love this color!
Just keep repeating: I do not need another sweatshirt, I do not need another sweatshirt….but wait…
For everyone in need of weeknight dinner inspiration, and you’ve searched my entire website, take note that many of our dinners came from this cookbook by Melissa Clark. It’s fantastic!
Clicking through many links connected me to these Gola sneakers, which I ordered and just received. Very comfy! Stay tuned for my fall shoe guide… :)
Enjoy!
