Flavor Buffet
Happy Friday, everyone!
We’re closing out week eight (working from home) as we approach Mother’s Day weekend. And while this Mother’s Day doesn’t look the way it usually does (no big gatherings happening around here), I will still be calling my mom and all of the other mothers in my life to remind them how important they are to me. Phones and FaceTime are absurdly helpful; wouldn’t you agree?
This week’s Buffet has a little bit of everything which is exactly why I created this series. It’s filled with good reads, plenty of recipes, an idea for a weekly adventure, and some shopping (online, of course).
Have a good weekend and remember: call your mom! call your grandmother! call the women in your life that are so, so special to you. :)
Read
All about how to make the best chicken parm, according to Bon Appetit. Take notes!
Ideally, we should probably all be eating more fish (easier said than done). But let’s look at the ways to buy fish online, since going to the fish market isn’t exactly happening right now.
The concept of the “Quarantine Garden” is taking off and even we are taking part. Our small balcony now has several pots filled with seeds; I’m waiting on basil, cilantro, peppers, and more.
Not only would it be better to eat more fish, it’s also a good idea to begin eating less meat (truly). Check out this handy guide for a way to contemplate eating well, without meat.

Cook
Buttermilk Spring Chicken - This just sounds delicious and perfect for a change of pace on a regular weeknight featuring chicken.
Cheese and Scallion Scones - Near the biscuit family, scones are also high on my “breakfast bread” list. Can’t wait to bake these soon.
Sausage Kale and Bean Pasta - Remember that pasta we made last weekend? It was very similar to this one. I’d love to try this next as it adds beans to the classic duo for even more protein!
Coconut Green Curry with Mushrooms and Chickpeas - Strongly considering this dish for the weekend. It’s always a good idea to incorporate a few meatless meals into your week.
Dine
We continue to cook the majority of the time (read: all of the time), but we make an exception once a week on Saturdays. Whether it’s a treat during the day or a full meal at night, we opt for a safe takeout option once a week.
This past Saturday, we ordered sushi from Sakura Organic and I must say it was awesome! We used to visit this spot frequently, grabbing seats at the bar, but always noticed that the restaurant had a thriving takeout business. Now, since pick-up/delivery is the only option, we tried it out and it was a total success.
Never thought I’d be so excited to eat a spicy tuna roll (and egg drop soup!) at my kitchen table, GF soy sauce and all, but it was delightful. And a joy to have a night off from the cooking routine. ;)
Shop
Splendid - They’re offering 30% off your purchase. Good news from the world of the-softest-clothing-ever.
Eat What You Want by Gaby Dalkin - This brand-new cookbook from the creator of What’s Gaby Cooking, an excellent, California-based cooking blog. I need to place my order and get cooking! We feature recipes often fro her blog and first cookbook.
Every morning I have a bowl of Grandy Oats Granola and it’s delicious! This Maine-based company has several gluten free products and their shipping is absurdly quick. Highly recommend placing an order!
Madewell - In case you’re curious, they’re offering select denim and bags starting at $75. Not too shabby!
Enjoy, be safe, and stay home.
