Flavor Buffet: 1/15/2021
Happy Friday!
What a week (again). Somehow this one felt longer than usual and while we have finally made it to Friday, it seems like a lot has happened (again) in just five days. Thankfully, it’s just about time for the weekend and the Buffet is here to help start the fun.
This week’s edition features new cookbooks, kitchen scales, home decor, recipes for right now, updates to the takeout guide, and a potential addition to my sweatshirt collection. ;)
Have a great weekend! Please wear a mask.
READ
We may be the only ones who haven’t bought an Instant Pot, but this article (and cookbook) may change my mind.
I love a good “before and after” when it comes to renovating older homes that need some (major) help. Apparently, I’m not the only one.
Never have I ever turned down salty snacks while watching football. This roundup has some excellent options for the weekend’s games.
I’m going to need another bookcase: I want every title on this list of soon-to-be-released 2021 cookbooks.
One product I use consistently (whenever possible) to improve my baking is a kitchen scale. It’s an inexpensive device that can make a world of difference when it comes to accurate measurements.
Don’t forget the flowers! A personal “goal” for 2021 is to buy fresh flowers more often for my home. I just need to make sure I’m using the right vase.
COOK
Why yes, I will be making easy scallion pancakes.
We frequently turn to this chicken and broccoli with brown sauce and enhance the sauce with sriracha or chili garlic to give it an extra kick. This dish is equally excellent with beef.
Potato leek soup would be great for a cold winter night’s dinner. Yum!
I’d love to make this linguine with savoy cabbage and salumi. Colu Henry’s recipes are always spot on.
Did you see those biscuits I made last weekend? They are the literal best. Here’s the recipe. ;)
DINE out - at home
Good news!
I updated Bar Bites: Takeout Edition which now includes even more great restaurants for takeout/delivery/contactless pickup. I hope you’ll check it out.
While some restaurants are offering dine-in options right now, we feel most comfortable getting takeout for a car picnic or finding a spot outside to enjoy a snack. It’s not the easiest to eat cake in your car, but it’s definitely worth it. This “new normal” is temporary and I’d strongly recommend having a car picnic this weekend. :)
SHOP
Shamelessly admitting I love a great sweatshirt (do you watch my Insta stories?) and this one is no exception.
I ordered the bala bangles (1-pound weights) to enhance my latest workout routine. Yes, they’re very light, but supposedly very effective when used during certain exercises.
How do we feel about these sneakers? I’m back and forth on them; continuing my internal debate daily…
Dermstore is now carrying Kate Somerville skincare. Have you tried this line? I’m looking into a few of the products and will keep you posted if I make a purchase.
