Skincare Update: My Sephora Sale Order

I know. There is a lot happening in this country right now (this very day actually). All of it far more important than a skincare post. But alas, something I have happily been able to refine and tweak throughout 2020 has been my skincare routine and that brings me a small sense of joy and calm amidst the reality of this year (this month, this day).

As I continue to try new products, re-order the good ones, and say goodbye to the ones that just aren’t worth it, I’m here to report one main (obvious?) theme: everyone’s skin is different. Everyone’s skin reacts differently to different products and that is OK. What currently works well for me may never work for you and something that I wish would make my skin glow on day one may never actually do that.

Trial and error is a big part of creating a great skincare routine and I’m here to report that is most-certainly a true statement. With the current Holiday Event happening at Sephora, I took advantage of the discount (up to 20% off!) and ordered a small sampling of products that had glowing (pun intended) reviews. I’d also heard from bloggers, friends, and sections of the beauty world online that these products were fantastic. Once that many people say so many wonderful things about something skincare-related, I’m definitely adding it to my cart. I know. My self control is a topic for another day.

So, without further ado, here is what I ordered (and am about to begin using) from the Sephora Beauty Insider Holiday Savings Event (goes until 11/9!). I will provide updates once I’ve been using these products for a few weeks.

Disclaimer: At age 35, I admit that I am fairly pleased with the current condition of my skin and have accepted that I cannot go back ten years and wear more sunblock. Of course, I’d like for it to be less red and for the wrinkles to calm down, but overall I don’t have many complaints. Much of what I buy is for general maintenance and not necessarily to fix/remove something. My face is my face! I’m just trying to treat it well from here on out.

Note: not all of my selections are “clean” beauty products. I strive to achieve a balance in my routine based on what works best for my skin.

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence - I had been hearing about this “magic” product for a few years and had been intending to add an essence into my routine for a while. While I am not entirely clear on what the essence will do, I have high hopes. I ordered the smaller size because I didn’t want to make that big of an investment (the discount does help). According to my research, I apply the essence after a toner and before all of the other serums etc. We shall see! Best news is that it makes me look radiant; worst news will be if my skin reacts poorly.

Mini GOOPGLOW Microderm Instant Glow Exfoliator - A good friend strongly recommended that I order this product from goop beauty and while I am usually tentative around exfoliators, I decided to give it a whirl. I ordered the smaller size because apparently a little goes a long way, which is good news if you ask me. This will not be the first time I’m trying an exfoliating-type product, but I hope this one will have much better results.

Dr. Dennis Gross Triple Correction Eye Serum - Conveniently, I ran out of my usual eye cream right before I placed this order so it was time to try something new. My previous product was from this same brand, but I opted for something stronger this time around. There’s a lot of debate around whether eye creams are worth it; I think they are (?). I hope this one is as great as all of the reviews.

Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream - Admittedly this is a free sample I added to my cart using Insider Rewards points before checkout. However, one of the women I follow on social media that frequently shares her beauty routine recommendations said that this is a favorite. I didn’t want to order a full-size since I do have a moisturizer that works well, but testing out a new one never hurts. ;)

Beauty Counter Tripeptide Radiance Serum - I’ve been keeping my eye on Beauty Counter and all of their many fans. I’m currently using their vitamin C serum daily and while I’m not sure I’m noticing crazy results, I do appreciate the “clean” aspect of the brand. Jury is out on whether I re-order the vitamin C or try it from another brand. However, this Radiance Serum goes with the product below and I couldn’t resist trying it out. A smile instantly makes you radiate of course, but a serum may be able to help, too. :) (Note: this product appears to be sold out at Sephora so the link goes direct to the Beauty Counter website).

Beauty Counter Overnight Resurfacing Peel - Countless positive reviews from customers as well as several bloggers praising its results, I had to add this Peel to my cart. I’m just so curious! Somewhat wary about leaving it on overnight (as instructed), but I am very hopeful for the goodness it claims to do. Again, fingers crossed my skin doesn’t (over)react. (Note: this product appears to be sold out at Sephora so the link goes direct to the Beauty Counter website).

And now for a few items I’m still considering adding to my cart before the sale ends…

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask

Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector

Farmacy Honey Halo Moisturizer

Farmacy Honey Potion Hydration Mask

Tata Harper Resurfacing BHA Glow Mask

Necessaire The Hand Cream (love this brand’s body lotion, serum, and exfoliator).

Have you tried any of these products? Is there something specific you are considering ordering from the sale? I am always happy to discuss skincare and compare/contrast the plethora of options available.

Enjoy!
