Flavor Buffet: 10/22/2021

Hello! Happy Friday.

Despite the warm day, I’m in full-on fall mode and I’m thrilled that the weekend looks to be a chilly one. Give me all the layers and long sleeves! In other news, I’ve been baking weekly which has led to some delicious discoveries (see below for a photo and recipe link) as well as a renewed excitement for the act of baking in general. Yay! Just in time for the upcoming holiday season…

This week’s Buffet offers up the usual, helpful variety including a roundup of outerwear, TV shows for tonight, and plenty of recipes to inspire dinnertime during the week (or weekend). Enjoy!

READ

I’ll continue to avoid listening to true crime podcasts, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching Only Murders in the Building.

I plan to share this guide to the best wool socks with Seth because they’re his favorite!

Need to order Dorie Greenspan’s new book, Baking with Dorie, right away and I’ll bake an Everything Cake while I wait.

This heartfelt piece about visiting family may make you tear up, but I promise it’s worth it.

While pour-over coffee allows me to make just the single cup I need, I am not a fan of the actual pour-over process. Carefully reviewing this list of drip coffee makers because no-effort coffee is much more my speed. ;)

In case you missed it, the profile of Adele in Vogue is excellent. Her music (new and ‘old’) is great and she seems like a pretty cool person, too (I’m not surprised).

Ted Lasso Biscuits - fresh from the oven!

COOK

Recipes that caught my eye this week which are (easily) adapted to be gluten free.

Cacio e Pepe Rosti - perfect dish for when we finally have guests over for dinner. Looks yummy!

Definitely making Shrimp and Salami Pasta in the near future.

Lavender-Lemon Crinkle Cookies will be added to my “to bake” list as I continue my non-chocolate baking spree.

Should we make a Vegetable Lasagna? Looks delicious.

We’d need to adapt this Hunan Beef slightly to be GF, but it looks so good and I’d love to make it.

Fall is the start of (hearty) soup season so I think we’ll make this Thai Chicken Meatball Khao Soi next week.

Even I, a self-proclaimed non-apple fan, am intrigued by this Big Apple Crumb Cake. Wowza.

And last, but not least, the scrumptious, buttery, and fabulous Ted Lasso Biscuits (recipe by Christina Tosi for Bake Club).

WATCH

The last episode of Only Murders in the Building came out this week (Hulu). Strongly recommend this series! So glad it will be back for a second season.

I have heard rave reviews about Maid (Netflix) and we may just need to start it this weekend. Not sure it’s exactly uplifting, but maybe that doesn’t always matter.

Last Sunday was the return of Succession (HBO) and it’s as good as ever. Finally, something good to watch (that isn’t football) is back Sunday nights.

Home Economics (ABC) is light-hearted, fairly funny, and easy-breezy. I recommend it as pure “silly TV” because that’s my favorite thing to watch when I need to unwind.

SHOP

It’s just about Coat Season (I love outerwear)! Here are a handful of my favorites (some I own, some I saw this week) for chilly days/nights ahead…

Everlane Oversized Shirt Jacket - ok this isn’t a coat, but it does look like a good layer for those fall weekends when the sun still feels warm. I like that this one has pockets!

Alex Mill Sherpa Work Jacket - so excited to wear this with a light sweater underneath or even a t-shirt. The patch pockets and contrasting sherpa/corduroy fabrics are a win for me.

J.Crew Snowday Puffer Jacket - this looks so cozy! I love the faux-shearling trim, detachable hood, and big front pockets.

Madewell Estate Cocoon Coat in Insuluxe Fabric - stylish, warm, and well-made, this coat has a timeless look that will be fashionable for several winters ahead.

Patagonia Silent Down Jacket - I tried on this style recently and it was so comfy! I do like the shorter length for cold winter walks and that it’s a pretty basic, pared-down style. Several color options available, too; I like the Basin Green!

Have a great weekend and enjoy!
