Flavor Buffet: 8/14/2020

Happy Friday, everyone!

This week’s heat wave has left me craving the coldest water and a yearning to wear anything long-sleeved in my closet. What can I say? I love summer, but eventually, I’m not too sad for the change in season. Of course, I’m going to soak up every second of the heat and I’ll think of it fondly come November, but right now I wouldn’t mind a few days below 80 degrees. You may feel differently. ;)

For this week’s Buffet, we’re featuring summer staples, salads for dinner, my favorite fried clams, plus a lot of great shopping. Summer sales are in progress and the fall previews have begun. How fun!

Have a great weekend!

The quickly-changing New York restaurant landscape. More and more permanent closures every day.

Personally, I am a big fan of Maya Rudolph as well.

The reality of working - or not working - in a tourist destination that is no longer attracting tourists.

August offers peak-summer produce (primetime for summer-theme meals), which means it’s time for the annual “Healthyish Farmer’s Market Challenge.” The first recipe looks delicious!

Apparently we all should be “milking corn.” Learn something new every day.

COOK

Avocado Corn Salad - this sounds like a perfect dish to pair with seafood…or steak!

Mediterranean Quinoa Salad - I’d like to make this dish over the weekend. I may serve it with grilled chicken…or shrimp!

Spaghetti with Creamy Lemon Sauce - Just be sure to use GF spaghetti for this summertime classic. Looks so good!

Speaking of cooking, have you checked out our recipes? New dishes coming soon!

DINE

Last weekend we went to Woodman’s of Essex and it was wonderful. We ate a boat of fried clams, alongside some popcorn (native) shrimp, and I couldn’t resist the fries. The majority of Woodman’s menu can be prepared gluten free and their fried seafood is just fantastic.

Yes, it’s a busy place so be prepared to wait for your food (while wearing a mask). They have really mastered the art of social-distanced ordering and dining and for that I’m very grateful. Plus, the view, while you devour your order, is stunning in the evening.

In case you’re not in the mood for a platter of fried seafood, may I suggest checking out my dining guides…

I know some people have been traveling to Maine and man, I miss it! I’m not sure when/if we’ll be going there this summer, but you should check out my guide to southern Maine if you’re thinking of making the trip.

SHOP

Of course, mid/late August brings out the start of fall collections (even I’m thinking long-sleeves amidst this heat). And, of course, Madewell has a vast section for new arrivals.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is now open to all Nordstrom cardholders, which is good. It’s open to everyone next week on Wednesday. Check it out and see if there’s something catching your eye - these prices are excellent.

Speaking of sales, Dermstore is currently having their own anniversary event (until 8/17) with select brands up to 25% off. Time to try something new or stock-up on your favorites! Plus, free shipping.

I have fully switched to natural deodorant (is this exciting?) and this one from Ursa Major is fantastic. I’ve been using it for a couple months and am very pleased.

If you need some, here are my favorite masks that are breathable, comfortable, easy-to-wash, and easy to wear.

Speaking of the eventual change in seasons, fleece season (I mean fall) is coming. Send me a note for a discount off of your first Dudley order. :)

Enjoy! Wear a mask.
